Born from a Love of
Indian Fabric & Fine Craft
NIAR was built around India's richest indigenous textiles - the chikankari of Lucknow, the phulkari of Amritsar, the silks of Banaras and Bangalore, the weaves of Surat - and the complementary world of fine skin, hair and body perfumery. One platform. Every craft, verified.
From the Founder
A love of Indian craft is how everything began.
I have always been drawn to the things that take time to understand. The Banarasi woven on a handloom versus one that merely pretends to be. The phulkari from a grandmother's chest, the silks of Bangalore that catch light differently in every season, the dense, ancient weaves of Surat that the rest of the world has barely discovered. India's craft traditions spoke to me long before I had the vocabulary for why. And alongside those fabrics, always, fragrance as a private language.
For years I searched for one honest, unhurried place where India's finest artisans could stand together, seen and valued as they deserved. It did not exist. So I built it.

The Beginning
The Story Behind NIAR
There is a girl everyone who loves her fondly calls NI. From as far back as she can remember, she was drawn to the things that take time to understand. She learned, without being formally taught, the difference between a Banarasi woven on a handloom and one that merely pretended to be. She understood that a chikankari kurta from Lucknow carries a different weight than the copies that flood the market - not just in thread count, but in the hours of a woman's life stitched quietly into every motif. She fell in love with phulkari from her grandmother's chest, with the silks of Bangalore that caught the light differently in every season, with the dense, ancient weaves pouring out of Surat that the rest of the world had barely discovered.
And alongside the fabrics, always, fragrance. Not perfume worn as an afterthought - a careless spritz before stepping out - but fragrance as a private language. NI moved through the world of skin and hair perfumery the way she moved through a weaving village: slowly, with full attention. The dry-down of a master perfumer's attar. The warmth of a body mist that lingered like a memory on warm skin. The way a single scent could carry a person back to a grandmother's kitchen, or to a monsoon evening on a terrace in Delhi.
For years she searched for one place - one honest, unhurried, trustworthy place - where India's finest artisans could stand together, seen and valued exactly as they deserved. It did not exist. So she built it.
"The rarest things in India are rarely the hardest to make. They are simply the hardest to find."- Nidhi Chauhan, Founder
NIAR was always going to be a platform built entirely on India's own terms - for the handloom weavers, the heritage textile houses, the master perfumers, the conscious craft makers who carry centuries of knowledge in their hands and deserve a stage equal to the depth of what they make. Not a marketplace. Not an aggregator. A home for things that are genuinely rare.
The name she chose holds everything she felt. In Sanskrit, Nīra means water, or pure essence - something that flows without force, that takes the shape of whatever vessel is worthy of it. In Irish, Niar means radiance. Not shine. Not gloss. Radiance - the quality that comes from within, from something true. That is what NI wanted every product on this platform to carry. That is what she named the whole endeavour after. And that is what she has spent years building toward: a place that radiates India's finest, honestly and without apology, to the world.
How NIAR Came to Be
Our Journey
The idea of NIAR is born - not in a boardroom, but in the silence between knowing something is missing and deciding to build it. NI begins asking a question that will not leave her: why does India, with the richest craft heritage on earth, not have a luxury platform built entirely on its own terms? The research begins. The conviction deepens.
A full year of immersion. NI travels to weaving villages, atelier studios, and perfumers' workshops - not as an investor, but as a student. She studies the global influence of Indian textiles, the ancient science behind skin and hair care formulations, and the visual language of true refinement. The NIAR identity - Becoming, Refined - takes its shape in this year. Not designed. Discovered.
NIAR’s first collections take form. Fragrance accords are evaluated one by one. Skincare formulations are tested against a standard most brands never attempt. Textile partnerships are forged only with makers whose work carries genuine provenance. Every product that earns a place on NIAR earns it - nothing is listed by convenience or volume.
NIAR’s commerce platform is built from the ground up. Not adapted from a template - architected. A full-stack operating system designed to the luxury standard: precise, compliant, seamless. Every touchpoint - from discovery to delivery - is considered as carefully as the products it carries.
NIAR opens. The first collections go live. A curated circle of partner brands joins a platform that was built, above all, to honour their craft. For NI, this moment is not a launch. It is the answer to a question she has been carrying for years - and an invitation to every person who has ever stood in front of something truly made and felt, without quite knowing why, that it mattered.
What We Stand For
Our Principles
Every product passes a 47-point quality audit. We list fewer things done brilliantly rather than many done adequately.
Transparent data, fair commissions, genuine co-marketing. We treat every seller as a long-term partner, not a tenant.
Sustainability is built in, not bolted on. Recyclable packaging and cruelty-free standards are non-negotiable - not a marketing badge.
Full ingredient disclosure. Real ratings. No paid placements disguised as editorial. Customers deserve the truth, especially about luxury.
NIAR is shaped by its community of tastemakers and reviewers. Every voice influences what we curate next.
We apply AI and data science with human oversight. Technology should amplify craft, not replace it.
